How to Verify Your Google Business Profile Without a Postcard

You can verify your Google Business Profile without a postcard if Google offers phone or text, email, video recording, or a live video call. Some eligible businesses can also receive instant verification. The important limitation: Google decides which methods your profile can use. You cannot select an option that does not appear.
For a retail store, the most useful preparation is having access to the location, its business contact details, and evidence that you manage it. Start by checking the profile and available options, then follow the instructions for your verification method below.
Step 1: Confirm You Are Verifying the Right Store Profile
Sign in to the Google Account you intend to use to manage the business. Search for your store on Google Search or Google Maps and open its Business Profile.
Before starting verification, check these details:
- Existing ownership: If someone else already manages the profile, use the ownership-access process rather than creating another listing for the same store.
- Business name: Use the name customers recognize from your storefront and business materials.
- Location: Check the street address, suite number, and map placement against the actual store.
- Contact access: Make sure you can receive messages or calls through the contact method Google offers.
- Business category: Select a category that accurately describes the store, not one chosen to obtain a different verification method.
If the category needs attention, our guide to choosing Google Business Profile categories for your retail store explains how to distinguish your primary business activity from secondary offerings.
Correct genuine errors before submitting verification evidence. A video showing one store name while the profile displays another creates an avoidable mismatch.
Step 2: Check Which Verification Methods Google Offers
Open the profile and select Get verified, then review the available options. Google explains that verification methods are determined automatically and some businesses need more than one method.
Choose an offered method you can complete with access you already have. Phone verification is not practical if calls go to an automated menu. Email verification is not practical if nobody can access the displayed inbox.
If video is the only option, prepare for video rather than repeatedly changing business details to make another option appear. Contacting support is appropriate when the available process does not work, but it does not guarantee that Google will offer a different method.
Step 3: Complete an Available Non-Postcard Method
Phone or Text Verification
If phone verification appears:
- Select the phone or SMS option offered in your profile.
- Check that you can answer the business number or receive its text messages.
- Request the call or message.
- Enter the verification code in your Business Profile.
For stores using a central switchboard, check how incoming calls reach the location before requesting the code. Google states that interactive voice response systems cannot receive verification codes.
Keep the code private and enter it yourself. A verification code is an access credential, not information to include in a public help-forum post or forward casually to a marketing provider.
Email Verification
If email is offered, review the address shown in the verification screen. Confirm that you can access that inbox, then request the verification email and follow its instructions.
If the message does not appear, check spam folders and any filters that redirect automated messages. For a shared store inbox, check whether another team member moved or archived it.
The relevant address is the one presented in the verification process. Having another email address associated with your business does not automatically make that address an available verification destination.
Video Recording Verification
Recorded video gives Google evidence of the store’s location, its operation, and your authority to manage it. For a retailer, plan a continuous route that shows all three.
- Location: Show the surroundings, street signs or nearby landmarks, and the storefront so the business can be connected to its listed address.
- Business existence: Show permanent signage, merchandise, displays, and other features that identify the operating store.
- Management access: Demonstrate access that an ordinary customer would not have, such as unlocking the entrance or entering a staff-only stockroom.
For example, a clothing store’s recording could begin outside with the street and store sign, continue through the entrance, show the sales floor, and finish with access to the stockroom. The purpose is evidence, not a polished promotional tour.
Follow the recording instructions inside the verification flow. Google’s video verification process calls for a continuous, unedited recording made and uploaded through the Business Profile process. Prepare the route first rather than assembling separate clips afterward.
Keep customer faces and sensitive information out of the recording. Show access to business equipment without exposing passwords, payment details, or private records.
Live Video Call Verification
If Google offers a live video call, follow the prompts to connect with a support representative. Be physically present at the store with a mobile device that can show the premises clearly.
Prepare the same core evidence as for a recording: the location, visible business identity, and management access. Have keys and access to relevant areas ready before beginning.
The practical difference is interaction. During a live call, the representative can ask you to show a particular area or demonstrate access in real time. A recorded submission needs to communicate the necessary evidence without that conversation.
Instant Verification
Some profiles qualify for immediate verification. Google notes that a business whose website is verified in Google Search Console may qualify for instant verification.
This is an eligibility-based process, not a button available to every business. If you already manage the store’s verified website in Search Console, use the relevant Google Account when claiming or managing the profile and follow the prompts.
Search Console ownership does not guarantee instant verification. If the profile still requests another method, complete that method rather than treating website verification as a substitute.
Bulk Verification for Eligible Multi-Location Retailers
For retailers managing multiple branches, a separate verification pathway may apply. Google says businesses managing 10 or more eligible locations of the same business may qualify for bulk verification.
This is relevant to a retail chain, not a single store seeking a faster alternative. Organize consistent location information and account access before pursuing it. Managing several unrelated businesses does not make them locations of the same business.
Step 4: Handle a Postcard That Never Arrives
If you already requested a postcard, reopening the profile will show whether another method is available. Use an alternative only if Google offers it; a missing postcard does not automatically unlock phone or email verification.
Google says most mailed verification codes arrive within 14 days. While waiting:
- Check the store’s mail-handling process, including shared reception desks and building mailrooms.
- Avoid changing the business name, address, or category, because those changes can invalidate the mailed code.
- Avoid requesting replacement codes repeatedly. Requesting a new code invalidates the previous one.
If the delivery window has passed, review the profile’s current verification options and follow the available replacement or help process. If a replacement has been requested, use the latest code rather than an earlier postcard that arrives late.
When mail is unavailable and the other offered methods cannot be completed, use the support route in Google’s verification help page.
Step 5: Identify Why Verification Is Stalled or Failing
A pending review, rejected submission, and suspended profile require different responses. Start with the status shown in the account rather than repeating the same action.
The Submission Is Still Under Review
Submitting evidence does not always produce immediate approval. Google states that verification review can take up to five business days. Check the profile and associated email for updates before submitting again.
The Video Was Not Accepted
Read the feedback and address the missing evidence. Review the recording against three questions:
- Could someone connect the filmed storefront to the listed location?
- Was the business name visible and consistent with the profile?
- Did the recording demonstrate management access, rather than only areas open to customers?
A clear view of merchandise establishes less than a recording that also shows the exterior sign and access to a staff-only area. Improve the evidence that was missing instead of simply making the same video longer.
The Code or Verification Screen Does Not Work
Check that you are signed in to the correct account and working on the intended store profile. For mailed verification, confirm that the code belongs to the latest request. If you contact support, describe the exact message, verification method, and stage where the process stops. Screenshots can clarify the issue, but leave verification codes and private account information out.
The Profile Is Suspended
Suspension is not simply a failed verification attempt. Follow the suspension process rather than creating a replacement listing. Our guide to what to do when your Google Business Profile is suspended explains that separate issue.
Step 6: Decide Whether Professional Management Would Help
A straightforward verification usually does not require a paid service. Professional help becomes more useful when the obstacle involves account ownership, conflicting profile information, repeated evidence problems, or coordination across multiple retail locations.
The value is organization and diagnosis: identifying the actual obstacle, keeping location details consistent, preparing relevant evidence, and maintaining a clear support history. Professional management does not bypass Google’s requirements or guarantee approval.
